When people first start thinking about creating a travel blog, one of the first things that crosses their mind is ‘how much money can I make from a travel blog?’ The second question is most likely going to be ‘is there a place in the blogging world for a new blog to earn money, or are there too many blogs already?’ And finally you finally start to ask the main question ‘How do I actually start a travel blog?’
So how much can a travel blog make?
Well, in all honesty the sky is the limit when it comes to earning money from a blog. It should be noted that bloggers who make the most money usually have several different forms of income streams. When I say the sky is the limit, I say it because if you look at onestep4ward.com, the lifestyle blogger Johnny Ward made over 1.5 million dollars in just 3 years. That’s not a typo – 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS!
Once a blog becomes established, the blog alone will likely make around $3,000 – $5,000 each month. That’s just from the blog. If you start to look into other ways of making money you can aim to triple this amount. Other income streams would be freelance writing; consulting, content creation and even something like social media management.
Ok, so I’ve put a figure out there but only given you one example, and it’s a pretty extreme example. So here are some other bloggers doing very well indeed:
- com earns over 6 figures each year. This is a great family travel blog and one to look at for inspiration.
- Tim Leffel also earns more than six figures each year. He has achieved this by creating several different streams of income such as; books, multiple websites and also a successful marketing business.
- Goats on the road, a fantastic travel blog that is rapidly growing every year brings in over $100,000 each year.
Now I am not giving exact details of specific earnings, apart from Onestep4ward.com, because bloggers tend to keep those figures quite close to their chest.
I would say that there must be hundreds, if not thousands, of travel blogs out there earning at least $3,000 per month. I genuinely believe that anyone who creates a travel blog has patience and works at it for around a year or two will also be able to earn that amount. If you just stick it out you could have such a fantastic income doing something that you love.
I hope there are lots of bloggers reading this who can give advice, share their experiences and maybe even hint at how much they make online – I know you’d be helping out all potential bloggers. If you’re considering starting a blog then ask as many questions as you need to, I was once in your shoes and know that there are a million and one things going round in your head!
